| Abstract | Airborne (Convair 580)and spaceborne (ERS-1)C-band SAR data were acquired in the Salobo area during the SAREX'92 campaign. The study area encompasses the main Brazilian Cu deposit and is located in the northern border of Carajas Province. The region is characterized by an oriented WNW-ESSE set of parallel hills (main rocks of Salobo Group)surrounded by a low relief (rocks of Xingu Complex). The vegetation is dense and is typical of the tropical upland rainforest. The Carajas Province is inserted in the Archean Itacaiunas shear belt, a geotectonical province with metasediments, metavolcanics, gneisses and granulites. This paper discusses aspects of the evaluation of both SAR data (SAREX and ERS-1)based on visual analysis aiming at the discrimination of sub-units within the Xingu Complex. |
